Just above us is a gilded statue 18 feet tall by Herbert Adams called the Goddess of Light. You’ll see her again tonight.

Well – down we go. I know it’s difficult to tear your eyes away from all there is to see up here. During the awful thunderstorm that struck the grounds in July, the elevator operators repeatedly begged people to descend to safety. And they refused, delighted with nature’s light and sound show, until the pounding rain finally drove them inside.
